TWO GENERATIONS OF ACTION STARS GET BLOODY IN UU KODATHARA ULIKKI PADATHARA (UKUP) TRAILER


Yesterday, the producers of the film Uu Kodathara Ulikki Padathara (UKUP, for short) held their audio launch function. For those unfamiliar, the audio launch for an Indian film is usually a pretty big deal, considering how important music is to the industry. I could go on about all that, but there is something more interesting about the function, and that is the fact that typically they use these events to premiere theatrical trailers for the film before they go online.

Well, UKUP's trailer is now online, and it's a doozy. The film features two generations of action stars. The elder statesman in this case is Nandamuri Balakrishna (NBK, or Balakrishna, or BALAYYA!!! for short), who has been hunting for a hit for the last couple of years. In 2010 he starred in one of Tollywood's biggest films, Simha, and he has yet to recreate that success even though he's released 3 or films since then, including one, Adhinayakudu, this very weekend. Balakrishna is the superman of Telugu cinema, he rocks a mean mustache and brings the thunder, however, in this trailer he looks like he's going to mainly be launching dirty looks, though I have some hope that he'll break at least a couple of people in half. The young upstart is Manchu Manoj, son of Mohan Babu and brother of Lakshmi Manchu (Anaganaga O Dheerudu). Manoj recently starred in the absolutely insane looking action film Mr. Nokia, which I'm still trying to get my hands on, and looks like the future of Telugu action films.

The trailer begins in a somewhat benign manner, with what appears to be some sort of power struggle, but the second half really turns it up, and is well worth your three minutes. The volume of blood shed in this trailer makes US Red Band trailers looks like Teletubbies commercials. Very fucking intense. This may be a film I'll even attempt to catch in theaters without subtitles, and that's extremely rare for me. The pairing of Balakrishna and Manchu Manoj is very tempting, and I suggest you surrender yourself to the madness that is Uu Kodathara Ulikki Padathara!
